Western Reserve Historical Society (WRHS) will open a new permanent gallery that explores the history and culture of immigrants and ethnic groups in Northeast Ohio.
Details
This new International Heritage Gallery (IHG) will feature a “mosaic” of various ethnic groups over time, their cultures and contributions to regional development, and the unique events that are especially important to the development of Northeast Ohio, the United States, and the world. The Gallery will encompass more than 2,000 square feet of gallery space at the WRHS Cleveland History Center in University Circle, designed with the latest technology to maximize both the experiential and educational environment for the visitor.
WRHS has been working with ethnic community leaders for two years to develop a concept and plan for the International Heritage Gallery. The Steering Committee, chaired by IHG Founder Alex Machaskee, is working closely with staff and experts to develop a storyline and artifact selection that tells the overall history of immigration and the stories of ethnic groups in Northeast Ohio. There has been a phenomenal response from representatives of the many ethnic communities with commitments of both financial and material support for the project. The gallery is on track to open Fall 2026.
