The rhythm of daily life, stories and songs, farm animals and gardens, and Early American craft and trade demonstrations are all part of your visit to Hale Farm & Village. Investigate rural community roles, spark STEM learning, or walk the path of 19th century entrepreneurs.

Thanks to the generosity of the GAR Foundation and the Burton D. Morgan Foundation, select programs are available at no cost; including free transportation and classroom materials for Akron Public Schools, Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Cleveland Charter Schools. Early Education: Fun on the Farm

Hale Farm & Village is excited to announce the return of its popular early childhood program, Early Education: Fun on the Farm, a unique and engaging experience designed specifically for children ages 2 to 5.

Each one-hour session includes a themed craft, story time, snack, and an interactive visit to a historic farm site. This hands-on program encourages curiosity, creativity, and exploration in a safe and welcoming environment. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and pre-paid reservations are required.

Program Schedule & Themes To Be Announced 

Sessions are held at 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM, with a maximum of 10 children per session to ensure a quality experience for all attendees.

Program Pricing:

  • Members: $8 per child (includes one free adult)
  • Non-Members: $10 per child (includes one free adult)
  • Additional adults: $5 each

Stay for the Day!


Participants are invited to extend their visit and enjoy Hale Farm & Village’s scenic grounds. During summer weekdays and fall weekends, families can explore additional historic sites, shop in the museum store, enjoy a picnic, or dine at the Gatehouse Café.

This program offers the perfect blend of fun, education, and outdoor adventure for young children and their families. Space is limited—reserve early!

Kids in Communities from Long Ago

Discover how families lived, worked and played in the 19th century Western Reserve!

Interactive lessons in historic homes, animals on the farm, and spaces to explore inside and out. Demonstrations of early American crafts & trades including candle making, spinning, blacksmithing, glassblowing and pottery amaze young visitors while providing strong STEM connections.

This program supports Ohio’s Learning Standards in Social Studies, Language Arts & Science; downloadable classroom resources provided.

Best for: all ages! This program is perfect for younger scholars from pre-K through grade 3 but is easily tailored to students in the middle grades and high school. Ask us how we can fit our interactive programs to your classroom.

 

The Market and Me

Made possible by generous support from the GAR Foundation

Producers of goods, providers of services, buyers and sellers convene in a lively exploration of the marketplace. Experience first-hand how a growing population, rich natural resources, innovations in transportation and the spark of a creative community helped the region grow. This program supports Ohio’s Learning Standards for grade 3 in Social Students, Language Arts, and Financial Literacy.

Best for: 3rd grade students curious about money and how a business begins. Our newest entry in YEE for CLE, the Youth Entrepreneurship Education continuum of the Western Reserve Historical Society. [include link to full YEE for CLE webpage]

 

The Roots of Entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio

The Roots of Entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio Youth Entrepreneurship Education program engages students as they determine the resources necessary to meet basic needs, produce items for sale, provide services, and participate in the marketplace for profit in the 19th century. Meet people in progress on the road to entrepreneurship! Do they have what it takes to succeed?

This program supports Ohio’s Learning Standards in Social Studies, Language Arts, Mathematics & Financial Literacy; downloadable classroom resources provided.

Best for: grades 4 and up. Additional support available through high school. Part of YEE for CLE, the continuum of Youth Entrepreneurship Education at the Western Reserve Historical Society

 

Civics Education Experience: The Genius of Freedom

What are the rights and responsibilities of a citizen? Through a series of dramatic vignettes, experience the complex story of freedom and the quest for equality following the Civil War. 

From Ohio’s Learning Standards for Social Studies in grades 4-8 and primary and secondary sources, students follow the timeline from the Emancipation Proclamation, the Civil Rights Acts of America’s Reconstruction period, and the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments to the Constitution.

Best for: grades 5 and up as a stand-alone experience or as an extension of classroom civics lessons.

 

Special Seasonal Programs,

Maple Sugar Festival (March) and Harvest Festival (October) are high-interest seasonal programs and include the same amazing learning experiences as Kids in Communities from Long Ago, The Market and Me, and Roots of Entrepreneurship in Northeast Ohio, such as early American crafts & trades, farm fields and gardens, animals and occupations and daily life in the village and on the farm.

Summer Self-Guided Tour of Hale Farm & Village

Perfect for summer days, the farm and village are yours to explore! Feel the rough walls of the First Settlement cabin, and imagine the hands behind the marks on each log. See the gentle power of the oxen team, and the skill of the drivers guiding them. Hear the sounds of the farmyard, from the plaintive bleat of the sheep to the cheerful cheep of the chickens. Be amazed by the tradespeople, using heat to change ordinary materials – wax, glass, iron, clay – into items both useful and beautiful.

For Lifelong Learning

Hands on Hale! Family Learning

Family learning days on the farm with special activities geared toward early childhood development. Hosted the fourth Saturday of each month, (Jun. – Oct.).
