This powerful showcase brings to life the city's immense industrial might through rare artifacts and compelling stories of local businesses that fueled the war effort. See authentic military uniforms worn by Clevelanders who served with honor in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps, and explore the moving story of one local hero who gave his life—a tribute to the nearly 4,000 Clevelanders who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The exhibit also honors several Medal of Honor recipients from Northeast Ohio, highlighting their extraordinary courage and dedication.

Opening alongside Service and Sacrifice in Central Lobby is an exciting companion exhibit exploring the dramatic impact of wartime rationing on American fashion. Discover how style adapted to scarcity, and view authentic 1940s garments, including military uniforms worn by women who proudly served, and elegant civilian fashions worn on the home front.

Both exhibits feature powerful oral histories—firsthand accounts from Clevelanders who lived through the war, whether on the battlefield or at home. Don’t miss this immersive and emotional journey into the heart of a city at war.
