Call and Post Newsboys by Allen Cole

Say cheese! Our museum has thousands of photographs that help us document and share local stories, but photography itself is newer than the city of Cleveland.

  • Ages 3-5 will discover how photography helps us explore the world.
  • Ages 6-8 will think more about why we take photographs of each stage in our life through the story of Allen Cole, a Black photographer in Cleveland who documented his community.
  • Ages 9-12 will learn about early photographic processes and how people incorporated taking pictures into their daily lives.
  • Ages 13+ will engage with photographs taken by Cleveland’s photojournalists or published in Cleveland newspapers to think more about when photos are fact and when they might be fiction.

Program Admission rates:

  • Students (ages 3-18; pre-registration highly recommended): $9
  • Parents/Guardians: Free
  • Children ages 0-2: Free
  • Parking: $10 per car, flat rate - paid onsite at CHC before leaving.

Logistical Information:

  • All programs run from 10am-12pm on the program date.
  • Please arrive by 9:55am to check in so we may start on time.
  • Families may bring packed lunches to eat onsite after the program.
  • Admission to a Homeschool Field Trip Day includes admission to the museum for the rest of the day.
