Brought to you by the Ohio History Connection, Ohio Open Doors is a statewide event when local sponsors open their historic buildings and landmarks to the public for special tours and programs for free.
Visitors can discover Ohio’s amazing heritage Thursday, Sept. 10, through Sunday, Sept. 20, as historic buildings and fascinating places across the state open their doors for special tours and events as part of the Ohio History Connection’s biennial event.

In the heart of historic downtown Bedford, Ohio, this large, two and a half story Queen Anne style house was built in 1892-1893 for Holsey Gates, the grandson of Holsey Gates who founded Gates Mills. Come explore this extraordinary piece of architectural history.
The house was gifted to Western Reserve Historical Society by the Gates-Handyside family and has been operated by the historical society since the death of Ambassador Holsey Gates Handyside, the last heir, in 2016.
