As part of its nationally-renowned Crawford Auto-Aviation Collection, WRHS boasts one of the most extensive library collections documenting the history of transportation in the United States.

Details

The collection includes owner’s manuals, parts manuals, advertising material, photographs, paint chips, and other material that documents the history, design, and manufacturing of automobiles from all over the world. The collection also documents the history of aviation, airplane design, and the development of aerospace technology.

The National Air Races, in particular, are documented through photographs, programs, and film. The collection also documents the history of bicycle and motorcycle design and development. The history of railroad and locomotive development in northeast Ohio and the United States is documented extensively as well.

Finally, the development of roads and highways is documented through many collections, including the beginnings of a rudimentary transportation system in the early Western Reserve and the expansion of modern transportation infrastructure including complex highways to support suburbanization and the improvement of public transportation.
