About this position

Responsibility

Responsible to the Director of the Cleveland History Center for greeting and welcoming visitors to the museum and the monitoring and protection of the structures, property, collections, staff, and visitors of the Western Reserve Historical Society. Reports to Ambassador in Charge.

Classification

This position is classified as operational and is non-exempt with regard to overtime compensation.

Supervision

Reports to the Ambassador in Charge for daily assignment. No direct supervision of others within the department.

Coordination

Through the Director of the Cleveland History Center (CHC) works with the WRHS departments and auxiliaries on a daily basis. Closely coordinates daily activities with Director of Cleveland History Center and Visitor Services Manager.

Duties

  • Individual and group visitor assistance and control.
  • Protect the collection, premises, employees and visitors against fire, theft, vandalism and other dangers that might result in injury, damage or loss.
  • Know and share the WRHS mission and vision with the visitors. Able to give basic directions within facility and neighborhood.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the premises as assigned.
  • Remain alert while on duty and maintain awareness of the activities within the designated post.
  • Maintain confidentiality within the department.
  • Communicate problems and areas for improvement to his/her supervisor or other departments as needed.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Director of CHC and as necessary to assure the operational function of WRHS.

Qualifications

Pleasant manner, observant, tactful, tolerant, honest, alert, and neat. Conscientious in following regulations and instruction from higher authority. The candidate must not be convicted of any felony or misdemeanor involving any crime of dishonesty, breach of trust, theft, violence, or substance abuse. Museum Ambassadors interact with many people throughout their day, so it is imperative they are personable and do their best to create a positive work environment.
