The rare and extensive Civil War photo collection of Western Reserve Historical Society is featured the new publication, Feel the Bonds That Draw: Images of the Civil War at the Western Reserve Historical Society.
Using nearly 200 images from the WRHS Civil War photo collection, Feel the Bonds That Draw reflects on topics such as historical memory, the Civil War as an economic engine, and the impact of mobilization and combat on Civil War civilians and the environment. Author Christine Dee is assistant professor of history at Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and also the author of Ohio’s War: The Civil War in Documents.
Feel the Bonds that Draw, published by Kent State University Press in collaboration with WRHS, has received critical acclaim from several Civil War historians including Earl J. Hess of Lincoln Memorial University who wrote: “this book is a welcome visual journey, an enjoyable ride through many regions, and among the civilians as well as with the soldiers, of the Civil War.” William C. Davis, Director of the Virginia Center for Civil War Studies at Virginia Tech refers to the WRHS Civil War collection as “one of the finest collections of wartime images in existence, and ‘Feel the Bonds that Draw’ gleans some of the very best, including some not before published.”
