The remarkable works of stained glass in this gallery were created by an even more remarkable man. Born in northern Italy in 1916, Dr. Rudolph Sandon was an accomplished skier, a World War II veteran, and a scholar with several degrees in architecture, engineering, and a Doctor of Divinity degree.

Dr. Sandon emigrated to Cleveland and set up a stained glass studio in 1946. He was a sixth-generation stained glass artist, a profession that his family had practiced for more than 200 years. By his estimate, Dr. Sandon produced stained glass pieces for more than 500 churches, synagogues, mosques, civic buildings, and businesses across the United States and Europe.
Among those works, one of his proudest accomplishments was to be selected by President George H. W. Bush to create two stained glass windows for the Evergreen Chapel at the presidential retreat in Camp David, Maryland. The pieces on exhibit are now part of the Western Reserve Historical Society collection.
