Vintage Baseball & Picnic Days | Jun. 11

Hours: 10-4pm

Experience ‘base ball’ of the 1860’s, while enjoying a spring day in the historic Cuyahoga Valley!

Hale Farm & Village is excited to be the spring home of the Akron Black Stockings, a vintage baseball team, as they compete against regional rivals on our historic grounds with 19th century gear and rules of play. Enjoy local brews and bites along with special Hale Farm experiences throughout the day.

Hale Farm & Village doors open at 10am, gameplay begins around 12 noon. Limited Hale Farm sites will be open, exploring period picnic favorites and offering special experiences.

Crooked River Festival | Jun. 17 & 18

Discover the incredible history of the Crooked River, and its ever changing communities from the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Living history demonstrations, hands-on activities, period collections highlights, and special presentations will allow guests to explore the many experiences that Indigenous, European, and diverse early American people encountered in the Cuyahoga River Valley of the time. Step back into a unique period of history, and immerse yourself in storytelling, folk music, and artisan traditions that both defined and connected peoples.



  • Living history demonstrations, storytelling experiences and special presentations. 
  • WRHS Collections highlights featuring Commodore Perry & the Battle of Lake Erie related artifacts & period costuming pop-up.
  • Unique period experiences–including ax throwing, lumberjack competitions, and live music!


Timed presentations, including (Daily Schedule TBA):

  • Live Lumberjack Competitions presented by Timberworks Lumberjack Show, and sponsored by Truist Investment Services, Inc.
  • Great Lakes Brewing Company brings their Hop College to Hale Farm, featuring Commodore Perry IPA! 
  • Johnny Appleseed, presented by Ray McNeice, will share early Ohio stories. 
  • Perry Ground, Storyteller and Cultural Educator of the Onondaga Nation, with live storytelling performances. 
  • Rebecca Jones Macko, Interpretive Park Ranger of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park–presenting on the history of the Ohio Erie Canal and Akron.
  • Travis Henline, Director of Hale Farm & Village will explore the Native presence at the Hale Farm site through the late 18th and early 19th century.

Hands on Hale: Oxen Birthday Party & Farmyard Fun! | Jun. 24

Hands on Hale, our family-learning program series that brings unique learning experiences meant for early learners and family fun, kicks off in June with our annual celebration of Bert & Eddie, the Hale Farm oxen team. Join us for classic birthday-party activities, games, and make & take crafts across the site–with a special heritage farm theme!

Music in the Valley Folk & Wine Festival | Jul. 8 & 9

Music has always been an important part of the Hale Family homestead, and we are excited to continue this tradition with our Music in the Valley Folk & Wine Festival! Presented in partnership with FolkNet, the weekend highlights the casual and spontaneous nature of folk music as well as a festival schedule of local performances. The best of Ohio wine making will be featured in our Village Green wine garden and our historic sites will be open to explore our unique area history as the Cheesedom–a perfect pairing!

Civil War Weekend | Aug. 12 & 13


Experience Hale Farm & Village in a unique way during our Civil War Weekend!


Step back into the 1860’s Civil War era to explore reenactor camps and our historic sites as we bring to life the diverse experiences and stories of people from Northeast Ohio and across the country. A living history program series, Voices From the Past, will present the lives of both free and enslaved peoples through first-person interpretations. In addition, join us for a robust schedule of timed and ongoing presentations from partners exploring the historic and cultural importance of the time period.

Event Highlights:

  • Voices From the Past, a living history program series–presenting diverse stories of historical figures

  • Interactive opportunities within our Reenactor Encampments

  • Historic sites featuring immersive experiences of daily life for Western Reserve citizens during the Civil War

Fuel Cleveland is invitational show featuring motorcycle builders, rare bike owners, painters, and photographers, honoring the industry and it’s crafts by carefully curating it and presenting it to lovers of antiquated modes of two wheeled transportation. This show is for those who value building things with their own two hands. People of the mindset that time in the garage and on the open road is better spent than most other endeavors. Fuel Cleveland is presented to you by Lowbrow Customs, The Gasbox, and Forever the Chaos Life.
