From Generation to Generation: History through Sources

Downloadable Curriculum-Based Classroom Resources

From Generation to Generation, History through Sources updates a collaborative project of Western Reserve Historical Society and Cleveland’s Bureau of Jewish Education, known today as the Jewish Education Center of Cleveland. This project from the 1980s, From Generation to Generation, History Through Images, offered teachers a set of document facsimiles that examined the contributions of Jews to Cleveland, Ohio. The revised project adds resources related to significant contributions of Jews in the later twentieth century.

The resources here include unit plans on specific topics and reproductions of documents and photographs. Units focus on food and culture, Jews in public life, the reaction in Cleveland to the rise of Nazism in Germany, the move to Cleveland’s suburbs, and the movement to aid Soviet Jewry. The unit plans include objectives, questions to consider when examining the documents, suggested learning activities, and extended learning activities. Reproductions of documents and photographs support the objectives of the units.
