The Stokes Era: Recovering the Burning River

pfc_stokescarlb_8_cWhat would the Cuyahoga River look like if it hadn’t burned in 1969? Learn about how the fire lead to an environment precedent for regulation and how Carl and Louis Stokes played crucial roles for bringing it all together.

The discussion, held at the WRHS History Center, will look into the science, history, and politics of Cleveland’s burning river…all supplemented by the WRHS archives. It will feature the following experts and organizations:

  • David and Richard Stradling, authors of Where the River Burned
  • Dr. John Grabowski
  • NEO Regional Sewer District
  • Stokes Administration Member
