Silk or Paper Marbling
Marbling is a method of surface design that involves floating color on prepared water, using tools to manipulate the colors into designs, then picking up the color with paper or cloth. The art of marbling has been practiced around the world for thousands of years. In America, decorative papers found their way to the end papers and covers of books and journals, including that of Jonathan Hale and his son Andrew, found in the collections of the Western Reserve Historical Society. Learn the marbling process and complete a silk scarf or paper squares.
