Presenters

Cleveland Museum of Art, 11150 East Blvd, (across Wade Oval)

Beth Edelstein, Conservator of Objects, will share some of the challenges and discoveries that accompany the investigation and conservation of a range of objects in our collection. We will discuss the long-term conservation project of the museum’s monumental Krishna, a 6th century stone sculpture from Cambodia, as well as the preparation of Islamic collection objects for loan and display.

Western Reserve Historical Society/Cleveland History Center, 10825 East Blvd. 44106. Parking is accessed from Magnolia Dr.

Eric Rivet, Chief Curator, will present on mold remediation of Civil War era leather accoutrements. As part of an institution-wide collections inventory, the Civil War collection received a thorough evaluation that revealed several objects in need of care for their long-term preservation.

Patty Edmonson, Curator of Costume and Textiles, will share the restoration of an 1870s Parisian gown. The project includes reconstructing the dress based on physical evidence, using period sources as a guide, and future care of the gown. The group will also receive a brief tour of costume storage.
