Lew Larason on Avoiding Fakes

Born in Lambertville, NJ; growing up in New Hope, PA, Lew Larason has been working with wood and antique furniture for over five decades. In the 1950’s, he apprenticed with the late George Nakashima and other local woodworkers and in 1956 he became a self-employed woodworker, slowly developing a talent for restoring antique furniture as well buying and selling antiques. In 1966, he fully invested his talents and energies into the antiques world and restoring antique furniture. Since 1975, Lew has been a co-owner of Guthrie and Larason, an antiques dealer specializing in general country fare of the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1977, Larason wrote his first article about antique baskets and with his wife as his editor, he has been writing since including several self-published books, The Basket Collectors Book and Buying Antique Furniture: An Advisory.
