New and returning History Day teachers, please join us on October 14th as we delve deeper into the History Day process! As you meet other History Day teachers from across the region and exchange ideas, we’ll discuss the judging standards, as well as ways to help your students craft thesis statements, research plans, and annotated bibliographies to meet National History Day expectations. We’ll preview our upcoming History Day events for students, like our Rev Up Research Days, and we’ll also give some updates about registration and the Region 3 competition.
Ohio History Day is an exciting co-curricular program for students in grades 6-8 and 9-12. Each year, students conduct research based on a theme and create an original project as an individual, or in a group. Entries are judged in one of these categories: papers, exhibits, performances, websites, and documentaries. The Region 3 competition, for students from Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Summit, and Lake counties, will be held on March 3, 2018 at the Cleveland History Center of the Western Reserve Historical Society and the Case Western Reserve University School of Law campus in University Circle. Ohio’s Region 3 Winners go on to Ohio History Day, the state competition in Delaware, Ohio, and state winners have the opportunity to compete in National History Day in Maryland. Students in Region 3 are also eligible for geography or topic-based special prizes offered by community groups and organizations in Northeast Ohio.
