Story topic this week…

Plans Made, Plans Changed: CLE’s Urban Design – Ever wonder why Cleveland is laid out the way it is? Why do streets run the way they do? How does the east side differ from the west side? As the President of University Circle Inc. Chris Ronayne is an expert on the how the city was designed and will be answering all of these questions and more during this edition of Cleveland Stories.

Chris Ronayne Bio

Christopher Ronayne was named President of University Circle Inc (UCI) in 2005. UCI is the non-profit community service corporation responsible for the development, service, and advocacy of University Circle as a world-class center of innovation in health care, education, and arts & culture and premier urban district. Since becoming UCI’s seventh president, Ronayne developed a dynamic and aggressive agenda to leverage the institutional assets of the Circle’s anchor Eds, Meds, and Arts organizations and transform it into a vibrant mixed-use district. Chris Ronayne and his staff partner with more than 40 member institutions to oversee the growth and direction of Ohio’s fastest growing employment district, with UCI providing community planning, development, education, marketing, police, and other shared services. Before joining UCI, Ronayne served the City of Cleveland as the City’s Planning Director, Chief Development Officer, and Chief of Staff. He was the chief architect of the City’s Waterfront District Plan, an ambitious effort to reconnect the people of Cleveland to Lake Erie. Ronayne is a frequent speaker and lecturer at urban development seminars and forums across the United States and internationally.

The goal of the Cleveland Stories Dinner Party is to bring to life some of the fun, interesting stories about Cleveland’s past – from sports, to rock ‘n roll, to Millionaire’s Row, — the series will focus on tidbits from Cleveland’s past that will really thrill the audience. The Music Box is presenting this series in partnership with the Western Reserve Historical Society’s new Cleveland History Center. We think the Cleveland History Center is one of the most important museums in Cleveland. An unknown gem that Clevelanders should know more about, and support. It is the only museum in Cleveland dedicated to preserving and documenting the history of Cleveland. The Cleveland History Center includes two mansions, the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum, Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, Research Library, Kidzibits Hands-On Gallery, rotating exhibitions, and the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel.
