Cranks and Bards: Harvey Pekar and Poets from CLE – Delve into Cleveland’s poetic and writing scene in this special edition of TeachingCLE and Cleveland Stories. Co-founder, Arin Miller-Tait will be discussing the writings of Clevelander Harvey Pekar, and will be joined by Dave Lucas, the founder of the “Brews + Prose” series where writers and poets are encouraged to share their pieces of work.
Arin Miller-Tait is the co-founder and co-director of Teaching Cleveland. A former museum educator, classroom teacher and school administrator, she has worked with teachers and students of all ages in a variety of settings, focused on local and US history, economics and public policy. A lifelong Clevelander with a BA in Urban Affairs from Cleveland State University and an MA in Education from Ursuline College, she currently works as an education consultant focusing on program development and instructional design. She lives in Cleveland Heights with her husband, Joe, and their dog, Lola.
Dave Lucas is the author of Weather (Georgia, 2011), which received the 2012 Ohioana Book Award for Poetry. The same year, Rita Dove named him as one of thirteen “young poets to watch.” He has also been awarded a “Discovery”/The Nation Prize, a Creative Workforce Fellowship from the Community Partnership for Arts and Culture, and a 2016 Cleveland Arts Prize. A co-founder of Brews + Prose at Market Garden Brewery and Cleveland Book Week, he teaches at Case Western Reserve University and serves as the inaugural Cuyahoga County Public Library Writer in Residence at the William N. Skirball Writers’ Center.
