With generous funding from the State of Ohio, the work to renovate the lower gallery of the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum is underway. In partnership with AECOM, WRHS will complete both aesthetic and critical infrastructure upgrades to a space that, with few exceptions, has not been altered or restored since its construction in 1965.
Improvements bring the existing gallery to a higher level of finish consistent with the museum’s main floor that was restored in 2013 with public and private support. Improving the lower Crawford gallery’s ‘core and shell’ transforms its appearance, increases the safety and accessibility of the space for public and private use, increases the amount of space available for vehicles, and is the foundation for future exhibits and programs.
Please note that the lower level of the Crawford Gallery will be closed for public use, including facility rentals and private events, from December 1, 2021 – summer 2022. WRHS expects the lower gallery to reopen this summer, 2022.
Plans to reinstall, reimagine and populate the Crawford lower gallery are in progress. The lower gallery will have a fresh appearance and the collection will be highlighted as never before. At the same time, we will continue to present exciting exhibits in the main gallery. “A Century of the American Motorcycle” will be on view through March 20, 2022. After, “The Lure of the Open Road,”, an extraordinary exhibit of motorcycles from Northern Ohio collections will open, sharing main floor galleries with a curator’s selection from our automobile collection.
When complete, the Crawford lower Gallery will be refreshed, more accessible, updated, with critical infrastructure and environmental upgrades.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility during renovations.
