POSTPONED Spring Italian Language Lessons Begin

The Cleveland History Center is offering a series of Basic Italian Language Classes, taught by Serena Scaiola, a native speaker of Italian with many years of teaching experience at all levels in several local Universities.

Beginner Italian: This 8-week, Saturday-morning course is designed for individuals with no previous knowledge of Italian, or for those who were exposed to the Italian spoken language but need to refresh. It is intended to give basic skills in reading, listening and speaking, with a focus on developing comprehension and communication skills. The fundamental elements of grammar, phonetics, and syntax will be introduced by using a functional situation approach. A part of each lesson will be dedicated to real situation exercises, grammar drills and consolidation of the material, deepening of concepts through cultural readings, conversations, role games, listening, and reading exercises. No matter what the motivation is – personal interest, upcoming travels or researching your genealogy – learning Italian will make any experience much more fun and engaging!

Advanced Italian: This 8-week, Saturday-afternoon course is designed for individuals who have already taken Beginner I Italian, or have a very basic knowledge of Italian language.  These classes will build on the concepts taught in Beginner I and will utilize many of the same learning tools and strategies.

Beginner Italian: Saturdays,  April 18 – June 13 | 10:00-11:30am

Advanced Italian: Saturdays, April 18 – June 13 | 12:00-1:30pm

NOTE: Classes will not meet on Sat., June 6.

COST: $120.00 | WRHS members $100.00

Holiday Open House

Kick off the season with a Holiday Open House in our Hay-McKinney Mansion! This year, help decorate our mansion for the holidays and get a behind-the-scenes look as we install our special holiday exhibits. Children are invited to decorate their own holiday treats and create cards to take home or to send to veterans at the neighboring Louis Stokes VA Hospital. Then, venture upstairs for story time in the home’s historic nursery before exploring the rest of our galleries.

In appreciation of your membership, this event will be offered at no cost to WRHS members. General admission is $15 for adults and $10 for children and includes admission to all museum exhibits PLUS two rides apiece on the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel.

Smithsonian Channel Screening: The Day We Walked on the Moon

1969, orbiting Earth, three astronauts Michael Collins, Neil Armstrong, and Buzz Aldrin set out on a likely death mission that could only end in one of three ways: land, abort, or crash.

Join us Saturday, July 20th to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11  moon landing with a special screening of  Smithsonian Channel’s The Day We Walked on the Moon.

This special screening will be available for multiple viewings throughout the day and is free with museum admission.

Cleveland History Days Opening Ceremony

First Annual Induction ceremony for Cleveland History Day!

 

Join us as we kick off Cleveland History Days.  It will feature overview of program, recognition of first Cleveland Hero – an historic character who has contributed to Cleveland’s history, explanation of the Cleveland History Buff contest.  All those attending this event will receive 4 points.  Individuals with top 3 point totals is awarded a Cleveland Experience package – overnight stay, restaurant and tickets to cultural/ sports event. (4 CHB points)

History on Tap: Cleveland’s Haunted History

This event will explore Cleveland’s haunted history and highlight our Spiritualist past as well as tales from the Cleveland’s Other Side! Guests will enjoy local treats, craft beverages and themed activities like candlelit storytelling within the historic Hay-McKinney Mansion. The Cleveland History Center is partnering with area group Illumin8 to provide Tarot readings ($) and pop-up talks (free) by local experts.  Open bar wristbands are available online only, but drink tickets will be available to guests all night long.  Costumes not required, but strongly encouraged!

Scouts on the Circle

Scout out the many fun and educational opportunities available for Boy and Girl Scouts on University Circle. Visit the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland History Center, and the Cleveland Museum of Art all for one low price. Scouts can participate in activities at any of the above locations by following a self-guided passport handout that will be provided. All scouts will earn a special event patch!

Today’s automobile designers and manufacturers are focused on adjusting to increased demands for power and fuel alternatives. The hope is that pollutant-free, long range, and efficient vehicles are just over the horizon.

But that’s not new!

As the Twentieth Century dawned, only 20% of American cars ran on gasoline! Come to the Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum and see over 100 years of technological innovation. Learn how our current thoughts regarding the future of transportation are firmly rooted in a fascinating past.

Euclid Beach Park Day

Celebrating 50 years of fond memories and history

For nearly 75 years, Euclid Beach Park was one of the most prominent amusement parks in Northeast Ohio. Today, 50 years after closing, the memories created there continue to live on.

This annual event, now in its fifth year, invites audiences of all ages to enjoy a community celebration of Cleveland’s iconic amusement park.  Museum guests will enjoy fun family activities including unlimited rides on the Euclid Beach Park Grand Carousel, Rocket Ship rides, Laughing Sal, lawn games, delicious treats and so much more.

Adult: $10

Senior: $9

Child: $5

 

Lolly the Trolley rides return for their second year with additional tours. This year the Lolly the Trolley Tour Package includes a guided walking tour of Euclid Beach Park.
