Common Ground | The Voice of the Vote: The Shared Power of Cleveland’s Voters

The Western Reserve Historical Society is proud to once again be a part of Common Ground, the Cleveland Foundation’s community-wide initiative to inspire connection, build community, and create positive change. This year, we will be exploring the theme of People, Place, and Shared Power through two of our exhibits at the Cleveland History Center, Women & Politics and Carl & Louis Stokes: Making History.

On June 5, join our experts as we dive into these exhibits to discover how citizens of Cleveland have exercised their power to effect change on individual, local, and national levels. After the tour, participants will break into groups to answer thought-provoking discussion questions based on the exhibits. Finally, the groups will come back together to share what they have learned and explore how the lessons of People, Place, and Shared Power can be used to make changes within their community.

Registration for this event is free but required. This event will be held both in-person at the Cleveland History Center and virtually through Zoom. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, in-person tickets are limited, but there is no limit on virtual participants.

Common Ground Virtual Discussion: Women and Politics

The Western Reserve Historical Society is proud to once again be a part of Common Ground, the Cleveland Foundation’s community-wide initiative to inspire connection, build community, and create positive change. This year, we will be presenting a virtual Fred Walk program based on our new exhibit, Women & Politics, where guests will first learn about the historic struggle for voting rights and then discuss the issues faced by voters today.

Be among the first to get a sneak peek of the brand-new virtual version of our upcoming exhibit, Women & Politics, as our experts guide you through the story of women’s empowerment, from the early days of the suffragist movement to the election of northern Ohio women to positions of power on the local, state and national levels. After a brief introduction, participants will be split into one of three groups, where you will dive deeper into parts of our virtual exhibit to answer a thought-provoking discussion question with your group. Finally, you will come back together to share what you have learned and explore the resources available to those wishing to make change within their community. Sign up for FREE here.

Registration is free but required. To register, click here. This event will be held through the Zoom platform. When you register, we will email you a link that will allow you to join, as well as all necessary login information and instructions.

Common Ground

Join the Cleveland History Center and the Cleveland Foundation as it hosts its second year of Common Ground. This three hour event invites participants to engage in conversations and interactive activities about the diverse neighborhoods in Cleveland. Guests will experience Cleveland and community history like never before as they explore Cleveland Starts Here® sponsored by the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation and help us answer questions like, how has your neighborhood changed from the 1960s to today? What are your hopes for your community?
