 The Oxen Workshop
The winners of this exclusive, unique raffle will experience authentic, living, breathing examples of our American heritage. The Oxen Workshop introduces skills in training, driving and yoking an ox team in a sequence of hands-on experiences at Hale Farm & Village. Star and Bright, our team of Milking Shorthorn Oxen, are the center of this outstanding experience.
Your teacher will be Vicki Solomon. She has been driving Oxen for 15 years and has learned from some of the foremost experts on driving teams at Tillers International. She travels the country with her team of Devons teaching about the historical importance of working animals and how to drive them.
• Learn about the history of working teams in the development of the Western Reserve
• Halter, tie and groom Star & Bright
• Lead and learn basic commands
• Yoke the team and get an introduction to driving and hitching
• Lead the team on a spin around the farm
Raffle details:
A maximum of 250 tickets, will be sold for this raffle. Online, advance raffle sales end on Friday, May 18, at midnight. A maximum of 200 tickets will be sold online. Remaining tickets will be sold at the Hale Farm & Village Annual Benefit on May 19. The winning ticket will be drawn on Saturday, May 19, at the Hale Farm & Village Annual Benefit. The winner need not be present to win. The winning ticket is good for up to (4) four people to attend one, day-long Oxen Workshop. Each member of the training group must be at least 16-years-old. The date of the training will be set between the winner and Hale Farm & Village at a mutually agreed-upon time. The training must be claimed by August 31, 2012. The winner, if not present at the May 19 event, will be contacted by phone on Monday, May 21. The winner’s name will be posted online at www.halefarm.org on May 21. WRHS Employees and their families are not eligible to participate in this raffle.
