This year’s Legacy Benefit will take place Saturday, May 18, 2013, as we honor two important individuals from the historic preservation field: Jonathan Sandvick of Sandvick Architects, Inc., and the late Robert Hunker of the Peninsula Valley Historic & Education Foundation. Sandvick Architects is the firm responsible for the beautiful restoration of the Jonathan Hale House in 2003, along with other important projects, such as the The Arcade in downtown Cleveland, historic Fenn Tower at Cleveland State University, and the Westin Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit. Robert Hunker was a revered historic preservationist who is credited with the preservation of the Village of Peninsula and also for working with Senator John Seiberling on the creation of Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
The Legacy Benefit, which is being held during May’s National Historic Preservation Month, brings together the Cuyahoga County and Summit County preservation communities, so well represented by the Western Reserve Historical Society. In addition to honoring Sandvick and Hunker, we celebrate the preservation history of Hale Farm & Village and the entire Cuyahoga Valley, home to Hale and the Cuyahoga National Park.
Individual and corporate support of An Evening of Historic Preservation at Hale Farm & Village will go toward our long-standing historic preservation program, and proceeds will be used to match the generous challenge grant from the Lehner Family Foundation for $100,000, awarded earlier this year.
