Grant Files Database
The Grant Files Database of the Philanthropic Archives is a valuable tool for the study of philanthropy and nonprofit organizations in northeast Ohio. It currently contains information on over 20,000 individual grants from 13 of the foundations that donate records to the Philanthropic Archives. Grant records are added to the database as each foundation collection is archivally processed. Each record in the database indicates the name and location of the organization requesting funds, the name of the foundation approached for funding, proposal title, and the final decision regarding project funding. The amount of money requested and received is also indicated. If the proposal was accepted, the award date and duration of the project are included. The database can also guide the researcher to the exact location of the grant file within the collections of the Western Reserve Historical Society for further study. Collection restrictions are also noted in the database. Additionally, each individual grant file in the database is cross-referenced by as many as three subject headings. A researcher interested in a specific subject, funding trend, or program type can search for similar grant proposals contained in many different collections. The Grant Files Database and its subject list are maintained by the Philanthropic Archives Specialist. For further information or access to this database, contact Margaret Burzynski-Bays. |
