Irish American Archives Society

The mission of the Irish American Archives (IAAS) Society is to support the collection and preservation of papers, photographs, oral histories, memorabilia and other materials of individuals and families of Irish descent and the records of businesses and organizations that have influenced the development of the Irish American community in northeast Ohio.

The IAAS was founded in 1994 and has primarily fulfilled its mission by funding an archival position at the Western Reserve Historical Society.  The IAAS supports the formation and maintenance of the Irish American archives collection at WRHS, with a special interest in supporting exhibitions and other public programs that introduce the  resources of the collection to scholars and the general public.   The Irish American Archives Society was founded in 1994 by the late Thomas F. Campbell, Ph.D., who taught history at Cleveland State University and was a catalyst in the foundation of the CSU College of Urban Studies.   The IAAS is governed by a board of community members and produces a newsletter and heritage events, including an annual Walks of Life Award dinner honoring the contributions of Irish Americans to the greater community of northeast Ohio.
