President James A. Garfield

From Log Cabin to the Presidency

James A. Garfield--preacher, educator, soldier, lawyer, and U.S. Congressman--became the 20th President of the United States in 1881. His Presidency, cut short by assassination, lasted just 200 days. Thus, Garfield's story focuses primarily on the road to the Presidency.
