CLEVELAND, OH – At WRHS, Clevelanders can discover the road to the presidency with Marcus Hanna, find elusive female ancestors, learn about the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal, and more with the following November programs:
  
Saturday, November 1, 2008 - 12:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Presidents Maker: Cleveland’s Marcus Hanna - A timeslider presentation by WRHS’ Chad Malkamaki. In November of 1896, Cleveland businessman, Marcus Alonzo Hanna, became the campaign manager who helped William McKinley become the twenty-fifth President of the United States of America.  Free with museum admission.

Interpreted Walk Along the Historic Ohio & Erie Canal- WRHS Historian, John Grabowski and Cleveland Metroparks Naturalist, Ken Rosenthal lead a morning walk. About 3 miles.  Light refreshments and music of the canal era by Metroparks Historical Interpreter, Hank Mallery at trails end.  Meet at the Metroparks Canalway Center, 4524 E 49th St, Cleveland.  Free program, pre-registration required – call Art Grady, 216-721-5722 x320.

Author - Marc Tyler Nobleman - Boys of Cleveland: The Creators of Superman
 
Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman tells the behind-the-scenes true story of the world's first and most famous superhero--created by a pair of teenagers right here in Cleveland 70 years ago! For the behind-the-scenes story of the making of this first-of-its-kind book, join author Marc Tyler Nobleman for a lively hour-long presentation and Q&A. Topics will include the surprising research discoveries he made while in Cleveland (including at the WRHS), the authentic touches he put into the text and illustration of the book, his unlikely role in this year's "Summer of Superman" event, the debunking of a few curious Superman myths, and his path from book idea to publication. A night to celebrate heroes, your hometown, and boys with dreams.  Book sales and signing. Program free with museum admission.

Concepts of Race:  American Migration & Immigration History – A presentation by Dr. John Grabowski. Participants can learn about migration within the United States and learn about the journey from immigrants to citizens from the late 1800’s through the early 20th century, and its impact on the United States.

Discover the WRHS Library Archives Railroad History Collections - A hands on workshop by WRHS Librarian Ann Sindelar including Midwest Railroad Historical Foundation, New York Central, Nickel Plate, and Civil War railroad photograph and archival materials… Free with museum admission.

Citizen Soldiers on Horseback – Military Historian, Dr. George Vourlojanis presents an illustrated lecture/discussion on the 107th Ohio National Guard Cavalry.  Free with museum admission.

Big Top Boulevard - Come one, come all! The new WRHS circus exhibit opens with fanfare, jugglers and magic! Visitors can enjoy performances of the St. Ignatius Circus Co. from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and marvel at the vast and wonderful 40 foot long display of the Wilson Bros. Miniature Circus. The miniature Big Top is located in the beautiful Reinberger Gallery and features scale models of all the Big Top attractions, animals, side shows, trains, crowds and more. A perfect holiday treat for all ages. Free with museum admission.
 
Saturday, November 29, 2008 – 2:00 p.m.
 
Preserving your Heirloom Textiles – Costume and Textile Curator Megan Spagnolo will discuss the best practices for preserving important items of clothing, such as wedding dresses, and other textiles. Free with museum admission.
 
Admission to the Museum is $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, and $5 for children
and students.  Members are free.  With admission, visitors gain access to The Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, The History Museum, The Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, the Hay-McKinney Mansion and the WRHS Library.
 
Special programming and admission rates are offered Wednesday evenings. Admission to the museum after 5pm is only $5 for all and parking is free on Wednesday nights.  Most programs are free with museum admission.
