HOLIDAY GIFTS OF HISTORY FOR YOUTH AT THE WESTERN RESERVE HISTORICAL SOCIETY CLEVELAND, OH –

The Western Reserve Historical Society will host two opportunities to meet with museum education specialist Janice Ziegler to discuss history-friendly gifts that are appropriate for children.  The programs will take place in the museum’s new program space on Wednesday November 12, 2008 at 7pm and Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2pm.

In How To Get Your Kids To Like History, Ziegler will present items from board games to paper dolls that teach children about history and archaeology through hands-on activities and interaction.  The beginning of American History through the current Presidential Election is discovered through games such as Made for Trade, which explores bartering in early America, to Hail to the Chief, a game that teaches the electoral process.  Gifts like Brain Quests, Archaeology Dig Kits, Fandexes, and Paper Dolls will delight children of many ages.  Most of the products discussed will also be available for purchase in the museum store.

Janice Ziegler is the Vice President of Education and Public Programs for The Western Reserve Historical Society.  Since 1996, she has worked with the education community to present curriculum-based programs to school children throughout Northeastern Ohio and the United States.  Additionally, she has presented hands-on learning to education and museum conferences such as the Ohio Museum Association, the National Association of Automobile Museums, and the American Association of Museums.

Admission to the program is free with general museum admission, $8.50 for adults, $7.50 for seniors, and $5 for children (17 & under).  Members are free.  With admission, visitors gain access to The Crawford Auto-Aviation Museum, The History Museum, The Chisholm Halle Costume Wing, the Hay-McKinney Mansion and the WRHS Library.

Special programming and admission rates are offered Wednesday evenings. Admission to the museum after 5pm is only $5 for all and parking is free on Wednesday nights.
