Museum Advisory Council

The Museum Advisory Council, formerly the Women's Advisory Council, was founded in 1945 as an auxiliary organization of the WRHS to stimulate interest in and to raise funds to benefit the WRHS and to support the Society's programs. The MAC is open to both men and women and the dues are $50.

 

Some of Our Accomplishments:

  • Provided an endowment fund for operating the Hay McKinney House
  • Made restorations of the Hay McKinney House and gardens possible
  • Provided an acquisition endowment fund for the decorative arts
  • Made possible WRHS education programs
  • Created the WRHS Antiques Show
  • Ran the WRHS Antiques Show for 21 years raising over $1,300,000 to benefit the Society
  • Provided funds for major acquisitions to the WRHS
  • Participated in University Circle's annual holiday CircleFest event

  • Speakers from a variety of museums from across the country have provided the following programs to the Council's members:
            * Winterthur - The DuPont Mansion in Delaware
            * Williamsburg
            * Baltimore Historical Society
            * Strong Museum in Rochester, New York
            * The Smithsonian

        * Amish Country
        * Governor's Mansion in Columbus
        * Historical towns
        * Ethnic communities
