History Day

National History Day in Ohio is an exciting co-curricular program for students in grades 4-5 and 6-12. Each year, students conduct research based on this year’s theme “Individual in History: Actions & Legacies” to create historical papers, original performances, media documentaries, creative exhibits and imaginative websites as a result of their research.

Please use one of the links to find out more information about the program. National History Day in Ohio is open to all public schools, private schools, parochial schools, virtual academies, home schools and independent students.

Check out a new resource for students! The History Day Expert Blog is full of tips for topic selection, project creation, and research.

For Teachers

The National History Day in Ohio program is designed to enhance the instruction of history education. Students in 4-5 and 6-12 grade can complete exhibits, papers, performances, documentaries or websites (4-5 grade are exhibits and performances only). The program can be integrated into the classroom in a number of ways:

  • Required class project- All students in the class are required to complete the project and receive a grade

  • Extra Credit- Project is offered as extra-credit. Students may work after school with a teacher or independently

  • History Club- Interested students can participate as part of a club activity.

  • Team Teach- Two teachers (usually Social Studies and English Language Arts) take on the project in both classes as a required project.
