Adult and Children Learning Workshops Hale Farm & Village
Fall and Winter Workshop Series Weekends in September, October, & November Workshops will not be offered on October 10, October 11, and November 28th

Hale Farm & Village presents a fun opportunity to try your hand at learning how to turn a bowl using a potter’s wheel. Our potter will be guiding you through the basic process of throwing clay on a potter’s wheel. (Wear comfortable clothing as this class can get messy).
Cheese-Making Mondays & Tuesdays in October & November
Ages: 7 and up
Max per class: 2
Tuition: $55 non-members/$45 members
We will begin with a visit to the barn for a milking demonstration and the collection of fresh milk. Learn basic cheese-making skills, utilizing fresh milk and all natural ingredients.
Butter-Making Mondays & Tuesdays in October & November: 11:00 am
Ages: 7 and up Max per class: 2
Tuition: $55 non-members/$45 members
We will begin with a visit to the barn for a milking demonstration, and to collect farm fresh milk! Learn basic butter-making skills, utilizing fresh milk and all natural ingredients. Flavor the butter with fresh herbs grown in our gardens.
Spinning Workshop Weekdays: 1:30-4:30
Saturday/Sunday: 10:00-2:00 (Bring a brown bag lunch.)
Ages: 13 and up Max per class: 2
Tuition: $55 non-members/$45 members
Learn to spin with the Hale Farm & Village spinster. We will start on the drop spindle and then try spinning on a spinning wheel. Each participant will take some their first skein of yarn, a drop spindle, and wool roving to continue your spinning adventure. A resource packet on "Where do I go from here" will also be included.
Weaving Workshop Weekdays: 1:30-4:30
Saturdays: 10:00-2:00 (Bring a brown bag lunch.)

Tuition: $55 non-members/$45 members
Work with our Hale Farm master weaver and learn to weave with a loom and without. Participants will start with a simple paper weaving project of a checkerboard note card to learn and understand the basic steps of weaving. Students will then try weaving a miniature version of our rag rugs that cover many floors through out Hale Farm on a fl oor-loom. The mug mats are woven with cotton rag strips that are easy and fast to weave. Students will also have the opportunity to try weaving on the instructors’ collection of assorted looms. Participants will take home their note card and mailing envelope and their finished mug mat.
Family Weaving Workshop Saturdays: 10:00-2:00 (Bring a brown bag lunch.)
Ages: 8 and up Max per class: 8 (sets of 1 child and 1 adult)
Tuition: $55 non-members/$45 members
Working with Hale Farm's master weaver, learn to weave with a loom and without. Participants will start with a simple paper weaving project of a checkerboard note card to learn and understand the basic steps of weaving. We will then work on a simple cardboard loom that the students can take home, weaving a bookmark. Students will then progress to weaving a mug mat with cotton rag strips, on a fl oor loom. Our new weavers will take home their note card & a mailing envelope, cardboard loom and yarn for bookmark that day. The woven mug mat will be mailed to them.
1 Day Youth Introduction to Draft Horses October 24, 2009

Discover Hale Farm’s work horses during this special hands-on workshop for children. Learn the history of the Percheron Horse, and the valuable role it has played shaping American agriculture history. Compare and contrast jobs that horses performed on 19th century farms with today’s horsepower. In this workshop learn: horse safety procedures; lead a horse; caring for and feed a horse; grooming; harness a horse; basic driving principals;and work as a team, driving & hitching two horses and finally a wagon ride.
2 Day Draft Horse Driving Workshop - Beginner November 7-8, 2009
8:00 am to 4:00 pm BOTH DAYS Reservations Required $195/ $175 members of the WRHS
Learn to harness and drive a team of draft horses. Workshop includes safety while working on the ground, hitching, and driving. Driving includes cart, wagon, and fi eld work. Always wanted to get behind a team of Gentle Giants? Join us for this workshop, and get to know our teams of gentle Percherons, while building confi dence and skill!
