An 1887 photograph allowed for an exact replication of the wall paper, with its abstract designs of lines and stars in gold, on a white or cream ground and a border paper of multi-colored flowers and leaves.

Just outside of the library, across from Zeb's room, is the President's study. This room was constructed in 1880 when the second floor was raised to its present height and is interpreted to 1885. During the presidential campaign, Garfield used this room as his private office and study, as the library had been converted into a campaign office. Visitors during the time of his campaign called it a "snuggery," and indeed the room is a cozy space measuring only thirteen and half by fourteen feet. A lithograph and photograph show that Lucretia kept many objects just where her husband had them: Garfield's desk, desk chair and rocking chair are all to be found in the same location.

It's easy to visualize President Garfield reading in the unusually shaped chair in this room, sitting sideways with his legs draped over the lower arm. Only Lucretia's addition of a mantelpiece inscribed "In Memoriam" reminds us of his untimely death.
