Upon entering the house, you come into the front hall between the parlor and the summer bedroom. All is decorated as it might have been during the summer of the campaign, with the exclusion of some side chairs which have been removed to accommodate room for tour groups passing through. Original prints and documentation show three to five side and arm chairs, which might have been taken out to the porch during the campaign as needed.

The wall coverings in the front hall are brilliant and bold. There is a red "Morris Paper" under the crown molding which is documented by an 1886 bill from Edward Jennings for 4 1/2 rolls of paper. The other paper is a gold and white aesthetic paper with a combination of geometric motifs. The ceiling paper of black, gold and white creates a bold contrast to the wallpaper and border.
